Old Tale Mole Removal Myths

by on 2010/11/27

Many people suffer from something as common as moles. Most people will rather visit a cosmetic surgeon to assist them with the mole removal process.  Many times people will try to stop them from removing these moles as they believe in all the myths surrounding this issue.

According to the myths, one will develop a red scar the moment they remove the mole. Though the opposite is also true, a red scar may appear after a mole is removed surgically.   Once the healing process on your skin starts, the red scar will go away for good.

"Do not cover your wound with any bandages" is part of the myth that most people believe in. People believing this myth feel that the fresh air on the wound will make it heal faster.

Through the air, you can easily contract various bacterial infections and that is why the doctors feel you should cover the wound with an antibiotic ointment.

Neosporin is something else the myth believers feel will help when you remove a mole. However, using that on sensitive skin may cause an allergic reaction. It is possibly a better idea to ask the dermatologist to subscribe a solution that will be more effective. Yet, for fast relief, Vaseline works best in such predicaments.

Another belief is that vitamin E oil or lotion is just as effective after mole removal surgery. But scientists believe the opposite. Many studies over the years show that this type of vitamin will slow the healing process and in many cases worsen the effects.

Various mole removal methods

Because laser treatments are less painful than knifes and injections it is the more popular mole removal method for many. They use a special laser that produces a straight beam that is concentrated on the mole to eliminate it quickly. This method can only be effective if your mole is shallow.

You can also try cryosurgery. In order to decrease the temperature for this method they use liquid nitrogen that they add into a special device. The moment this device touches your skin it will destroy the cells in your mole.  Because there will be no flow of blood to the cells due to the very cold temperature it will cause simultaneous explosions of the cells.

Another very popular way of getting rid of moles is through good ol' home remedies. You can easily apply household or food items, such as baking soda, cauliflower and honey, onto your mole to get rid of it. Not everyone enjoys the smell of these items on their skin so a good and effective lotion from your pharmacist can work just as well.

It will be better for you to ask assistance from a dermatologist before you try just any of these methods. You might be surprised. He may end up prescribing a treatment that can get you your smooth face once again. If you want, you can always check for more information on this site.
